Chickens, Turkeys and other Poultry

Poultry farming is a key sector in terms of technological approach and dimensions in Italy. The total production can count on approximately 400 million chickens and 30 million turkeys per year; these numbers mean that Italy is self-sufficient. The sector is nearly entirely represented by vertical farms, and AIA is the main actor. A vertical farm means total control over the production process from buying breeders, to collecting and incubating the eggs, and to raising and collecting the adult birds for market. Particular attention is devolved to the selection of top quality raw materials for feeding our birds with balanced, safe feedstuff formulated for each step of the farming process. All processes are supported by technicians and veterinarians who work with commitment and dedication alongside farmers for maximising farm profits. The experience developed directly in vertical farms has allowed us over the years to improve the offer of technical solutions (system design and management, formulation of customised feeding programmes) made available also to our customers. The final goal is to ensure by means of total supply chain control the quality of meat to consumers. Cockerel, capon, guinea-fowl and duck farms complete the picture.

BREEDING GUIDELINES

Birds must be kept in appropriately roomy and clean environments. The initial temperature should, if possible, be kept at approximately 30°C and then gradually decreased by 3°C every week to reach a temperature of 18-20°C. Avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Bedding must be made of absorbing, soft and insulating material (wood shavings, shredded straw, rice husks, etc.). Wet or packed bedding must be removed or appropriately turned upon.
When housing, birds must always find feed and clean, ambient temperature water.
It is advisable to change the feed frequently to avoid waste while making clean water available at all times.
