Hens
The egg is the only animal product which, thanks to its shell, is packed and ready for use in origin. The obligation to print an identification alphanumeric code on the egg shell came into force in Italy on 1 January 2004, and since then each egg can be traced back to where it was laid.
Italy is self-sufficient for the production of eggs: that’s why Italian consumers will not find on market
eggs with a printed identification code other than IT, thus making Italian eggs an authentic, genuine Italian product.
Chicks and pullets
Hens
Chicks and pullets
This step is normally carried out in dedicated farms where the newly hatched chicks are raised until they approach sexual maturity. The pullets are then sent to specialised centres where they will start laying eggs. This delicate time starts on the chick’s first day of life and continues until it is 18 weeks old: during this time, the bird develops its digestive system, its skeleton and its genital system.
The correct and regular growth of the chick (the first four weeks of life) and of the pullet (from the 5th to the 18th week of life) is crucial for obtaining a hen capable of fully expressing its production potentials. In this perspective, Veronesi feed for chicks and pullets can meet the needs of farmers who use both the cage weaning and the free-range methods.

Hens
Modern hens belong to highly selected breeds capable of ensuring a high production of eggs for over one year; during this time, most of the feed which is ingested by the hen is used for forming the eggs.
Ensuring a correct mineral balance is crucial during this stage for forming a solid shell with all the nutrients needed to make high biological value eggs - i.e. the yolk and the white.
Selecting the appropriate feed according to the breed, the farm type, the age and the productive stage of the birds are the nutritional principles used by Veronesi to formulate complete feed for hens. Veronesi also offers answers to farmers who are seeking ways of simplifying farm management by offering a range of balanced feeds suitable to be given as single feed during the entire egg laying step.
